Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Car

The winter is tough on everyone and everything, including our cars. This spring, extend your spring cleaning routine to your vehicle, washing it down and making it shine for the warmer months. Since spring cleaning is typically the time we do a thorough cleaning rather than just a cursory one, devote the extra time to cleaning up your car in a way that will make it feel luxuriously new. Here are some cleaning tips for your car that we recommend.

Wash exterior:

When the temperature is high enough that you want to spend afternoon outdoors, listen to your favorite tunes as you take the time to thoroughly wash down the exterior of your car after the winter wear-and-tear. Wash off winter’s dirt, salt, and grime, and shine the windows so they look like new. Maybe even polish and wax your car’s finish. You should also check your windshield wiper blades to make sure they’re still in good shape and ready for spring rainfall.

Deep clean interior:

After months of keeping the windows up and letting a bit of trash accumulate on your car’s floor, take the time to deep clean the interior’s carpet and upholstery. Use a vacuum or carpet cleaning machine on both the floor and seats, wipe down the dash and console, and add an air freshener of your favorite scent. Additionally, remove any winter weather accessories and store them away for the warmer months.

If your vehicle requires extensive service to prepare for the spring season, bring it on down to Harvey’s GM, where we are happy to help.

Chevy Uses VR to Offer Cool Look at Vehicle Testing at Auto Show

Vehicle Testing

Always at the cutting edge of innovation, Chevrolet added a fun twist to their technological prowess by offering a 4D virtual reality experience of their vehicle testing at the North American International Auto Show. Chevrolet debuted this unique experience at the show from January 20th through 28th in Detroit. It was certainly a crowd-pleaser, offering to the public an experience and knowledge of the extent to which Chevy vehicles are tested before being released. It’s a thrilling experience as well as one that gives Chevy buyers peace of mind.

Within its vehicle testing procedures, Chevrolet makes sure that its cars are safe and able to handle the toughest of road conditions. For instance, the new 2019 Silverado will have undergone 7 million miles of testing by the time of its release. This VR experience allows guests at the Auto Show to feel what it’s like to be in the passenger seat during these rigorous tests, which include traversing tough terrain and low- and high-temperature environments ranging from -40° to 130°F. Chevy cars are also tested for their capabilities in high altitudes and in the presence of high wind and humidity.

Don’t Focus On the Little Things

In order to achieve this New Year resolution, focus on ignoring the little things and devoting your time to something larger. It’s an easy resolution to keep, which makes it realistic for the New Year.

Spend More Time With Family

Avoid These 5 Bad Winter Habits That Could Ruin Your Car

bad winter habits that could ruin your car

The winter months are rough enough on our roads and cars. Don’t put your car through even more unneeded stress when the cold and ice come out to play. Avoid these five bad winter habits that could ruin your car, so you can ensure your daily driver makes it to spring.

Don’t Warm Your Car Too Long

Getting in a cozy car on a cold morning feels nice, but idling your car for too long wastes gas and does damage to your sparkplugs.

Don’t Forget to Check Tire Pressure

Your tire pressure drops by 1 PSI with every 10-degree drop in temperature. Keep a tire pressure gauge on hand to make sure your tires are properly inflated before commuting to and from work.

Don’t Use Hot Water to Deice Your Windshield

If you’re in a hurry but find your windshield covered in ice, never resort to dumping hot water on it. This could cause your windshield to crack.

Do Change Your Windshield Wipers

Don’t get caught in a snowstorm with streaky wipers. Change them in the fall to ensure visibility come winter.

Do Consider Winter Tires

If you have summer tires on your car, you absolutely need to change them for snow tires. While all-season tires can suffice, snow tires are still your best bet.

Finding a place to store everything you need for game day isn’t easy, but you can always keep some of the smaller items out of the way until you need to use them. Stowing utensils, lighters, and more is a breeze with such a versatile toolbox right in the bed.

Celebrities Drive Chevy, Too

Celebrities Drive Chevy, Too | Harvey's Chevrolet | Radford, VA

You might think of the Hollywood elite as being more inclined to purchase expensive and exotic vehicles, but you’d probably be surprised to learn just how many celebrities drive Chevy models.

Robert Pattinson

Though he’s gone on to do other things, this celeb is still best-known for his vampire antics in Twilight. He keeps things a little more down-to-earth at home, though, where he’s been seen cruising the streets in an older Chevy Silverado pickup.

George Clooney

With an extensive and respectable acting career under his belt, Mr. Clooney needs something a little more on the elegant side when it comes to his drives. That’s why he’s been spotted making the rounds in a classic drop-top red Corvette – even though it’s his dad’s car, not his.

Chris Pratt

While Chris Pratt may not personally commute in a Chevy, he was selected as an honorary pace car driver for the Brickyard 400 in 2014 and blazed the trail in a Chevy SS. Given Pratt’s love for all-American pastimes like NASCAR and classic rock, it’s no surprise he’d be a Chevrolet supporter.

A lot of celebrities drive Chevy vehicles. Want to see what all the fuss is about? Then come on down to Harvey’s Chevrolet.
